What is the Difference Between HiCo & LoCo Magnetic Stripe Card?
The amount of data that can be coded to a card in a card with a magnetic stripe is the same for both HiCo and LoCo cards. The main difference between HiCo and LoCo cards is how hard it is to encode and erase information on each type of lane.
HIGH PROTECTION MAGNETIC STRIP
In most applications High-Stiffness or “HiCo Yüksek cards are recommended. HiCo magnetic stripe cards are usually black in color and encoded in a stronger magnetic field (2750 Oersted).
The strong magnetic field makes the HiCo cards more durable, because the data encoded in the strips is less likely to be deleted unintentionally when exposed to the external magnetic field.
HiCo cards are common in applications that require a longer card life and are frequently wrapped. Credit cards, bank cards, library cards, access control cards, time and attendance cards, and employee ID cards often use HiCo technology.
LOW PROTECTION MAGNETIC STRIP
The less common Low Coercivity or ”LoCo C cards are good for short-term applications. LoCo magnetic stripe cards are usually brown in color and are encoded in a low density magnetic field (300 Oersted).
LoCo cards are typically used for short-term applications such as hotel room keys and season passes for theme parks, amusement parks and water parks.
When choosing a magnetic stripe card for your business, ask how long you want your cards to last. Many of us have encountered a situation where a hotel room key has stopped working. Cards with magnetic stripes can be reprogrammed, but can be uncomfortable.
In most applications, HiCo cards are recommended. The small difference in the price of the HiCo card is worth the value and reliability.
